一 (yī) means 'one' and is used as a numeral before measure words. As 'entire/whole', it appears directly before specific nouns like 天 (day) or 年 (year), unlike 全 (quán) or 整个 (zhěnggè), which are broader adjectives. Its pattern 一…就… means 'as soon as'.
