Definition
下不为例 is a fixed expression used to warn or state that something will be tolerated only once and will not be allowed as a precedent. Literally 'the next time it will not be an example'. It is often used by a person in authority after forgiving someone, making it clear that the forgiveness is exceptional and carries an implicit warning.
