Definition
下船 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to disembark' or 'to go ashore from a ship'. The verb 下 ('to go down') and the noun 船 ('ship') can split when adding aspect markers, measure words, or durations — for example, 下了船 ('disembarked') or 下过两次船 ('disembarked twice'). Note that in standard Mandarin, 下船 means getting off a ship, not getting on; the opposite is 上船 ('to board').
