Definition
两岸 (liǎng àn) literally means 'both shores' and is the standard term for cross-strait relations between mainland China and Taiwan. Unlike 双方 (shuāng fāng), a general 'both sides/parties' for any context, 两岸 is geographically and politically specific. The adjective 双边 (shuāng biān) 'bilateral' describes agreements, while 两岸 itself is a noun used attributively (e.g., 两岸关系).
