Definition
中央 (zhōng yāng) has two main uses: the physical center of a large area (e.g., a square, a country) and the central authorities/government. It is more formal than 中间 (zhōng jiān, everyday 'middle') and 中心 (zhōng xīn, 'center/hub' of a place or institution). When referring to the government, 中央 is the standard term.
