为止 (wéi zhǐ) is a verb that always follows 到/直到 to mark a temporal cutoff, meaning 'up until' or 'by'. It must be paired with 到/直到 — unlike 直到 alone, which can also mean 'all the way to' without an endpoint. 至 and 直至 are more formal/literary; 迄今 is even more formal and means 'up to now' specifically.
