Definition
亲 (qīn) as an adjective means 'close, intimate' (关系很亲) or 'one's own by blood' (亲兄弟). It differs from 亲爱 (qīn'ài, 'dear, beloved'), which is a term of endearment; 亲切 (qīnqiè, 'cordial, warm'), which describes manner or atmosphere; and 亲生 (qīnshēng, 'biological'), which specifically modifies blood relations. As a verb, 亲 means 'to kiss' and is more colloquial than the formal/literary 吻 (wěn).
