Definition
亵渎 originally refers to treating something sacred with disrespect (blasphemy, profanity), but in modern Chinese it is also used metaphorically for showing disrespect to something considered noble, pure, or worthy of reverence — like love, ideals, or art. It is a formal, literary verb. You do not use it for physical 'disturbing' or 'pestering'; those senses in the raw gloss are misleading. The direct equivalents are 'to desecrate, to profane, to defile'.
