Definition
低头 (dī tóu) means both 'to lower one's head' (literally) and 'to yield, give in' (figuratively). Unlike 低 (dī), which can lower anything (head, voice, price), 低头 always refers specifically to the head. Its figurative sense of submission is close to 让步 (ràng bù), but 让步 means to concede in negotiations, while 低头 implies submitting under pressure or defeat.
