住家 is a separable verb-object compound (离合词) meaning 'to live at home' or, for a married woman, 'to stay at her parents' home'. When you add a time duration or frequency, the two syllables split: 住 + measure word/phrase + 家, e.g. 住了一次家. It is not used as a noun in standard grammar, though some dictionaries list a noun sense.
