Definition
侍者 is a formal or literary noun for a person who serves others — most commonly a waiter in a restaurant or a personal attendant in a formal setting. In Buddhist contexts it refers to a monk who attends to a senior monk or to Buddha. It is more elevated than the everyday word 服务员 (waiter) and appears in written narratives, hotel/restaurant signage, and classical or religious texts.
