Definition
假装 is the general, all-purpose verb for 'to pretend' — you pretend a state or action (假装冷静, 假装没听见). 装 (zhuāng) is a shorter, more colloquial synonym (别装了), but also has unrelated meanings (install, pack). The other siblings (冒充, 假冒, 伪装) are narrower: they specifically involve impersonating someone or disguising oneself, not just pretending a feeling.
