Definition
公公 is a kinship term that primarily refers to a married woman's father-in-law (husband's father). However, in some regional dialects (especially in the southwest), it can also mean maternal grandfather or serve as a respectful term for an elderly man, similar to 'grandpa'. The standard Mandarin usage is limited to the father-in-law sense, so be aware of dialectal variation.
