典范 (diǎnfàn) refers to an ideal model or paragon that sets the highest standard, often used for works of art, behavior, or institutions. It is more elevated than 典型 (diǎnxíng, 'typical example'), which can be neutral or even negative, and differs from 榜样/楷模 (bǎngyàng/kǎimó), which specifically describe people as role models to emulate.
