Definition
内向 (nèi xiàng) describes an introverted personality — someone who prefers quiet and avoids initiating social interaction. Unlike 深沉 (shēn chén), which implies a deep, undemonstrative character, or 含蓄 (hán xù), which means restrained and indirect in expression, 内向 is about social energy. Its opposite is 外向 (wài xiàng).
