凹 (āo) means 'concave, sunken' physically, and also describes a female connector (e.g., a socket). For the 'female' sense, 凹 is only used for mechanical/electronic parts, not for living things — use 女 (nǚ) for human gender, 母 (mǔ) for animal sex, or 雌性 (cíxìng) for biological female in non-human species.
