Definition
出外 means to leave one's hometown or usual place to go elsewhere, often for work or study. It's a separable verb (离合词): the object 外 can separate from 出 when adding aspect markers or measure words, e.g., 出了外 ('went out'), 出过外 ('have gone out before'). You don't place the destination directly after 出外; instead use 去 + place or 到 + place.
