Definition
出线 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to qualify for the next round' or 'to advance' in sports competitions (especially elimination heats). When you add a time word, measure word, or aspect marker, you split the syllables: 出了线, 出过线. You cannot place an object after 出线; instead use 在…比赛中出线 or 从小组中出线.
