分化 (fēn huà) means 'to split apart' or 'to differentiate' — it refers to a natural or gradual process where a whole divides into distinct groups, also used in biology for cell differentiation. It contrasts with 分裂 (fēn liè, forceful/hostile breakup) and 分割 (fēn gē, deliberate partition of a mass).
