化解 (huà jiě) — to resolve, to defuse, to dispel (conflicts, doubts, difficulties, etc.)

Definition

化解 is used for abstract problems — conflicts, doubts, tension — not physical substances. Less drastic than 解散 ('disband a group') and not about melting like 融化 or dissolving solids like 溶解.
