Definition
This 升 (shēng) is a measure word for volume, equivalent to a liter. It is not a verb — the verb 升 (shēng) means 'to rise' (HSK5), while 上升 (shàng shēng) is the common two-syllable verb for 'to go up' in formal contexts, and 提升 (tí shēng) means 'to raise/improve' something. 登 (dēng) is for physically climbing (a mountain, stairs).
