Definition
博弈 (bó yì) is a formal, written verb that can mean both 'to play a board game (like Go or chess)' and 'to gamble', but its most common modern use is metaphorical: 'to compete strategically' (e.g. in business or politics). It is more abstract and literary than 对弈 (duì yì), which strictly means playing a board game, and broader than 赌 (dǔ) or 赌博 (dǔ bó), which only mean gambling.
