Definition
反省 (fǎn xǐng) means to reflect on oneself, specifically to examine one's own mistakes or conscience with the goal of self-improvement. It is more personal and introspective than 反思 (fǎn sī, to re-examine a situation or event) and more constructive than 自责 (zì zé, to blame oneself). While 检讨 (jiǎn tǎo) is a formal, often public self-criticism, 反省 is a private, internal evaluation.
