Definition
向着 is a verb pattern with two main senses. The first is literal: 'to face, turn toward' a direction or object. The second is figurative (colloquial): 'to side with, be partial to' someone, often in a dispute. The 着 (zhe) attaches to 向 to indicate a continuous state; in both uses the object follows directly.
