Definition
喷气式 (pèn qì shì) literally means 'jet-style' and is used as an attributive to describe things that are jet-propelled, such as 喷气式飞机 (jet aircraft) and 喷气式发动机 (jet engine). It also refers to a specific form of public humiliation during the Cultural Revolution in which the victim was forced to bend over at a 90-degree angle with arms stretched backward, resembling a jet plane. This second usage is now primarily historical and carries strong cultural associations.
