嘲 is a bound morpheme (not a standalone word) meaning 'to ridicule' or 'to mock'. In modern Chinese it always appears as part of two-character compounds such as 嘲笑 (cháoxiào, to mock), 嘲讽 (cháofěng, to taunt), and 嘲弄 (cháonòng, to make fun of). You cannot use 嘲 alone as a verb; you must combine it with another character.
