Definition
土壤 (tǔ rǎng) is the formal, scientific term for 'soil' as a natural resource — the earth in which plants grow. It is more specific than the everyday word 土 (tǔ), which can also mean dust or be used as an adjective ('local'), and more technical than 泥土 (ní tǔ), which refers to general dirt or mud.
