Definition
坐船 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to take a boat' or 'to go by boat'. Since the verb 坐 and the noun 船 form a verb-object compound, you must split them when adding a measure word, duration, or number of times — e.g., 坐过一次船 ('taken a boat once'). The object 船 always follows 坐, but other elements go in between.
