外表 (wài biǎo) refers to the outward appearance or exterior of a person or object — what you see on the outside. Compared to 表面 (biǎo miàn), which can also mean 'surface' and often implies a contrast with reality (facade), 外表 is more neutral and focuses on the physical look. 外观 (wài guān) is similar but more formal and typically used for the design or look of buildings, products, etc.
