Definition
多余 (duō yú) means 'unnecessary, superfluous, redundant' — something that is more than needed and could be removed. It differs from 过分/过量 (excessive, exceeding a limit) and 累赘 (burdensome, cumbersome); 多余 simply says 'not needed' without a judgment of excess or burden. For writing, 冗长 specifically means verbose.
