Definition
大妈 (dà mā) has two uses: (1) 'aunt (father's elder brother's wife)' and (2) a casual, affectionate term for any elderly woman ('auntie'). It is less formal than 阿姨 (ā yí), which is a polite address for a woman of one's parents' generation, and warmer than 老太太 (lǎo tài tai), which is more respectful.
