Definition
奢望 (shē wàng) means an 'extravagant hope' or 'unrealistic expectation' — a desire that is excessive or beyond what is reasonable. Unlike 期望 (qī wàng) or 盼望 (pàn wàng), which are neutral hopes or wishes, 奢望 carries a strong sense of being too much or unattainable. It can be a verb ('to hope beyond reason') or a noun ('an unrealistic dream').
