Definition
妄想 (wàng xiǎng) is a strong, negative word for a delusion or vain hope that is clearly unrealistic and often self-deceptive. It is more serious and pathological than 幻想 (huàn xiǎng, fantasy/daydream) or 空想 (kōng xiǎng, wishful thinking), which can be neutral or even creative. 妄想 implies the person is out of touch with reality.
