Definition
委婉 (wěi wǎn) describes language or manner that is tactful, indirect, and polite — used to avoid offense or awkwardness. It is distinct from 低调 (dī diào 'low-key'), which focuses on avoiding attention or publicity rather than softening a message. Unlike 软 (ruǎn 'soft, pliable'), 委婉 applies to communication style, not physical texture.
