Definition
娶 (qǔ) specifically means a man marrying a woman — it takes the woman as the object (娶她, 娶媳妇). This contrasts with 嫁 (jià), which is a woman marrying a man (嫁给他), and with the gender-neutral 结婚 (jiéhūn), which describes the act of getting married without specifying who marries whom.
