Definition
宇宙 (yǔzhòu) refers to the entire universe, including all matter, energy, space, and time. 太空 (tàikōng) is narrower: it means 'outer space' — the physical void beyond Earth's atmosphere. While 宇宙 is the whole cosmos, 太空 is just the space part.
