Definition
守候 means to wait for someone with care, patience, or eagerness, or to watch over a sick/vulnerable person. Unlike 等待 (děngdài, neutral 'wait') or 等候 (děnghòu, formal 'await'), 守候 carries emotional involvement and devotion. It is similar to 看护 (kānhù) in watching over someone, but 守候 emphasizes the waiting aspect and personal care rather than medical nursing.
