Definition
小康 (xiǎo kāng) describes a moderate level of affluence — a household or society that is comfortably well-off but not rich. It is a specific socio-economic concept, famously used in the Chinese phrase 小康社会 (moderately prosperous society). Compared to the more general 富裕 (fù yù 'prosperous, wealthy'), 小康 emphasises a modest, adequate standard of living rather than great wealth.
