Definition
山下 literally means 'below the mountain' and refers to the area at the foot of a mountain. It's a common location word used in directions and descriptions of geography. Unlike some location words, 山下 does not take a possessive 的 when used as a location — you can say 山下的村子 'the village at the foot of the mountain' where 山下 acts as a modifier.
