Definition
山川 (shān chuān) literally means 'mountains and rivers' and refers to the natural landscape of a region, often with a majestic or grand feel. It is more poetic and concrete than 风景 or 景色 (general scenery), and unlike 景观 (a formal, technical term for landscape), it emphasizes natural features rather than human-made views. 江山 is a near-synonym but also carries political connotations of territory.
