Definition
峡谷 (xiá gǔ) is a 'canyon' — a deep, narrow valley with steep sides, often carved by a river. It's narrower and more dramatic than 山谷 (shān gǔ 'valley'), which is a broader, gentler depression between mountains. 沟 (gōu) is much smaller — a ditch, gutter, or shallow gully.
