Definition
崛起 (jué qǐ) means to rise abruptly, often used for a nation, economy, or industry emerging as a powerful force. It differs from 兴起 (xīng qǐ), which implies something becoming popular or springing up (e.g., a trend), and from 涌现 (yǒng xiàn), which refers to many people or things emerging at once. 崛起 also has a physical sense of a building or mountain towering over its surroundings.
