Definition
干旱 (gān hàn) describes an arid climate or land suffering from prolonged lack of rain (drought). It is more specific and severe than 干 (gān 'dry'), which is a general adjective for any dry object. 干燥 (gān zào) means 'dry' too but is used for air, skin, or boring writing, not typically for drought conditions.
