并购 (bìnggòu) is the formal business term for 'merger and acquisition' (M&A), covering both the merger of two companies and the acquisition of one by another. It is more comprehensive than 收购 (shōugòu), which specifically means 'to acquire/purchase' a company or assets, and less aggressive than 吞 (tūn), which implies a hostile takeover or swallowing up.
