幻影 (huàn yǐng) refers to a visual phantom or mirage — something that appears real but isn't, like a desert mirage. It differs from 幻觉 (huàn jué, hallucination), which is a false perception often caused by mental or physical states, and from 梦幻 (mèng huàn, dreamlike fantasy), which is more poetic and not necessarily visual.
