Definition
底下 (dǐxia) has two distinct meanings: 'under / below' (often directly beneath, e.g. 树底下 'under the tree'), and 'afterward / later' (referring to the time after something, e.g. 底下的事 'matters later'). Compared to 下面 (xiàmiàn), which is more commonly used for general 'under' or the next part in a sequence, 底下 emphasizes a closer spatial relationship and is more colloquial when used for time ('afterwards').
