Definition
府 (fǔ) is a bound form (b.f.) — it cannot stand alone as an independent word but appears as a morpheme in compound words. It has several related meanings: 'seat of government' (as in 政府 'government'), 'official residence' or 'mansion' (as in 王府 'prince's mansion'), and historically 'prefecture' (an administrative district). It is also used as a polite term in 府上 meaning 'your home' or 'your residence'.
