Definition
忧愁 (yōu chóu) describes a deep, lingering sadness or melancholy, often about life's troubles. It is stronger and more poetic than 烦恼 (fán nǎo 'worried, annoyed') or 焦虑 (jiāo lǜ 'anxious'), and overlaps with 忧郁 (yōu yù 'depressed') but is slightly less clinical.
