Definition
悬 (xuán) primarily means 'to hang or suspend' — something attached from above with nothing underneath. Unlike 挂 (guà) 'to hang on a hook/wall' or 吊 (diào) 'to hang by a rope/string', 悬 often implies dangling freely or being in midair. It also extends to 'unresolved' (a matter left hanging) and 'to worry' (a heart hanging in suspense).
