戏 (xì) is a general noun for any theatrical performance—plays, shows, or operas. It differs from 戏剧 (xìjù, drama as a literary/theater work) and 戏曲 (xìqǔ, traditional Chinese opera). 戏 also means 'trick' or 'scheme' (e.g., 把戏 bǎxì 'deception').
